El régimen de Conticon se produjo en 2019, y Marnuus Labuschagne se convierte en el primer jugador (Steve Smith) en el juego de cricket.
Last month, the International Cricket Council (ICC) updated their playing conditions. The cricket body has decided to tighten the concussion substitute rules after teams have exploited the loopholes. The change will come into effect as the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 kicks off on June 17.
Concussion sub rule change
Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh 1st Test in Galle will launch the modified version of the concussion sub rule. Unlike before, when the match referee would allow a replacement from within the squad depending on the closeness in the skill of the players, now 5 replacement players have to be named before a match begins.
Although the concussion sub rule was brought in for player safety in 2019, a few times teams were able to gain an advantage from it, especially in white-ball cricket.

Earlier this year, Indian batting all-rounder Shivam Dube was struck on his helmet and was replaced with Harshit Rana. The referee had to allow the change since India didn’t have any pace-bowling all-rounders on the bench and Harshit, who is a fast bowler who can hit a long ball, came in for him. Opposition captain Jos Buttler wasn’t pleased.
This wasn’t the first time the rule was abused, tactically or by luck. So, the ICC has decided that teams must name 5 replacement players as concussion subs and that they must include a wicketkeeper, a batter, a seam bowler, a spinner, and an all-rounder.
“Under an exceptional and rare circumstance, whereby a replacement concussion player gets concussed and needs to be replaced, the match referee will deal with the situation and consider a replacement outside of the five nominated replacement players. The existing like-for-like protocols will apply in this situation,” the ICC announced.
In case one of the concussion subs also gets concussed, the match referee can allow another replacement in special cases, using the current like-for-like policy.
