There would have been a lot of hopes pinned on all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, but then his performances for KKR in IPL 2025 were not up to the mark. The southpaw just went on to score 142 in just 11 innings. On the other hand, RCB went on to make some smart picks — namely Josh Hazlewood and Phil Salt, in the same price as Iyer, who helped the team win their first-ever title.

But then that is not how cricket works. Now, RCB coach Andy Flower has come out in support of Venkatesh Iyer, saying, had he been with RCB, his performance would have been different. In fact, the team had bid hard for him during the IPL auction as well.

“We really rated Venky (highly), that’s why we went so hard for him. It was because we valued having a strong Indian core to our team. We wanted some exciting young cricketers and a left-hander in the top order. We didn’t get him. I would like to think if he played for us, he would have had a really great season,” Flower said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Now, it remains to be seen if KKR will persist with the all-rounder for the next season or not. If not, then RCB will again have a chance to go for Iyer; but then there is still a long time to go for that.
