Sourav Ganguly recogió un cheque en una embarcación para ignorar a Shreyas Iyer del equipo indio para la prueba de Inglaterra
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has questioned the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer from the squad for the upcoming Test series against England. The Mumbai batter did not find a place in the side despite delivering consistent performances across formats, including domestic cricket. Ahead of the five-match series, Ganguly backed Iyer’s inclusion in the squad.
Ganguly laments Iyer’s absence in India’s squad for England Tests
Speaking to RevSportz, Ganguly pointed out that Shreyas had been playing at his best over the last year and deserved a spot in the squad. Dubbing him as a player who shouldn’t be left out, the ex-Indian skipper noted that Iyer had been scoring under pressure, taken responsibility and even played the short ball well.
“He has been playing at his best in the last one year, and should have been in this team. Last one year has been fantastic for him. He isn’t the player who got left out. He is now scoring under pressure, taking responsibility, playing the short ball well. Although Test cricket’s different, I would have had him in this series to see what he can do,” Ganguly said.
Shreyas last featured in a Test for India during the India vs England series at home in early 2024. He was snubbed from the BCCI central contracts list and his redemption arc began at that point.
He first led KKR to victory in IPL 2024, guiding them to their 3rd title. He then went on to captain India C, helping them lift the Duleep Trophy. Iyer then led Mumbai to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title while also being a part of the team that won the Irani Cup.
He finished as India’s highest run-getter in Champions Trophy 2025. His red-hot form continued in IPL 2025 as well where he led PBKS to the final. Now, Iyer is all set to play another final – this time in the Mumbai T20 League 2025 where he is the captain of SoBo Mumbai Falcons.
