1983 WC Hero Syed Kirni Kirn Fandom Preguntas 11 Die Bengaluru Studed
Legendary India wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani has slammed the tragic events during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 title celebrations, calling it a “deadly welcome” for the team. RCB released an official statement following a tragic stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
A victory parade had been announced, scheduled to culminate at the stadium with 35,000 attendees. However, a stampede broke out outside the ground even before the open-bus parade could begin, prompting RCB to alter their plans and head straight to the stadium. The celebrations ultimately ended in tragedy, with 11 people losing their lives and over 50 others injured in the stampede.

Syed Kirmani mourns Bengaluru victims
Speaking to India Today, 1983 World Cup winner Syed Kirmani expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of 11 fans in a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, while also questioning the nature of modern-day fandom. Fans tend to go extra crazy while celebrating their favourite side’s victory.
Kirmani, who played 88 Tests for India, said, “My condolences to the bereaved families. This was a deadly welcome to IPL champions.” Reflecting on his playing days, he noted the absence of overwhelming media and fan frenzy. “In our times, there was no such media hype. There was no TV, no madness that could lead to such unfortunate events.”
He also questioned the urgency behind organizing the parade so soon after the final. “If RCB could wait 17 years to win the title, the organisers could’ve waited a few more days to plan a safe event.” Taking a swipe at selective fandom, Kirmani wondered whether the same crowd would show up if Karnataka won the Ranji Trophy. “Fans today are crazier than ever, especially in IPL. In our days, passion was calmer. This kind of frenzy is unimaginable. The fans of our times were not as crazy as fans of today and especially in the IPL, the crazy fans are unimaginable particularly as you could see lakhs and lakhs were around just to get a glimpse of these great heroes.
