The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the India cricket team’s squad for the upcoming England Test tour will be announced in the next two weeks.

“The team will be picked in two weeks’ time,” Saikia told the Times of India.

Sai Sudharsan & Shreyas Iyer in the mix

Considering how Team India performed in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a few changes are expected. A middle-order spot is up for grabs, and there are many candidates who can fill in. Shreyas Iyer, Karun Nair, Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, and Sarfaraz Khan could end up fighting for the spot.

There is also some talk about Sai Sudharsan being looked at as the backup opener to Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal by the BCCI. The southpaw did well in the last season of the Ranji Trophy. Sudharsan has been on fire in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and has experience of playing in the County Championship.

What about Shami?

Mohammed Shami’s form hasn’t been great in the IPL. But the BCCI hasn’t ruled him out for India’s squad for the England Test series. The board expects him to bounce back and, considering his experience, skills and track record, have Shami in their scheme of things.

“Every player goes through difficult times after injury. It’s not a big deal. He is an experienced player and knows how to handle it. We haven’t heard anything about his fitness concerns. He is fully fit. Whether he is in the squad for England, that is up to the selectors, but don’t forget a few days ago, people raised questions about Rohit (Sharma) too. And now, nobody is talking about him,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.
