Se supone que Shreyas Iyer es excluido del campo Narendra Modi en lugar de IPL.

Given that just two teams remain, there’s no doubt that Shreyas Iyer is the best batter going into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Final. Before his match-winning knock against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) would have looked at him as a threat. Well now, he’ll be the biggest obstacle between them and their maiden IPL trophy.

The unbeaten 87 off 41 should instil fear. This isn’t the Shreyas of old. He isn’t an anchor or innings builder anymore; he’s a destroyer of attacks. There is no short ball weakness. He can hit the perfect yorker for a boundary. Batting first or chasing, it doesn’t matter. No longer can Shreyas be labelled a ‘spin basher’. He’s now a pace punisher as well.

Shreyas Iyer’s home away from home

And it seems like he’s destined to succeed in the IPL 2025 Final and bring Punjab Kings (PBKS) their maiden trophy. This isn’t a recency bias. Although he did produce one of the best innings in an IPL run chase. But it’s just that Shreyas hasn’t been dismissed at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the IPL.

The sample size isn’t great. Just three matches. But Shreyas isn’t a finisher. He bats at numbers three and four. And we aren’t talking about ODIs, where you can strike at less than a run a ball and chase the total down. And guess what, his strike rate is way over 200.

IPL stats: Shreyas Iyer at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad

Matches Runs Average Strike Rate 50s Highest Score
3 242 226.17 3 97*

So, not only is he not getting dismissed but he’s also terrorizing the bowlers as well. All three knocks have been fifties. The first one came in IPL 2024 for the Kolkata Knight Riders against the eventual finalists, Sunrisers Hyderabad. Since his team was chasing just 160, one can still excuse that one.

But this year alone, he’s got two 80+ scores in Ahmedabad. One was his highest score in the IPL against the Gujarat Titans. This knock was where Shreyas showed the world how far he’d come as a T20 batter. And then, of course, the last game against Mumbai. If I were an RCB fan, I’d be scared of what Shreyas might do on June 3 in the IPL 2025 Final.
