El COI quiere ser claro para el equipo de cricket “Gran Bretaña” a los olímpicos de LA28

The International Olympic is eagerly seeking clarity on the formation of the Great Britain team for the LS 2028 Olympics. Talks are on between ECB and Cricket Scotland to join hands for the event as cricket is all set to return to the Olympics. Great Britain’s cricket team last featured in an Olympics event back in 1900 and will surface once again in 2028 after 128 years.

IOC seeks clarity over team GB for LA28 Olympics

As per news agency PA, the IOC wants clarity on the qualification process and selection at the earliest. While ECB and Scotland are in talks, West Indies want to host an inter-island competition if they manage to secure a spot.

“We’d like clarity about how the places would be used in those two cases, Team GB and the West Indies,” IOC sports director Kit McConnell said.

The IOC sports director explained that every team has to represent the National Olympic Committee of their respective territory, noting that sometimes a nominated country chases the qualifying place and competes while there was also an option of an aggregate of players from different territories.

“We’d like to have clarity around that and be clear in the qualification system so everyone goes in with eyes wide open about how the process works, how qualification is achieved and used. We’ve given them some examples across other sports of how that works so they are not starting a base of zero,” he added.

The LA28 cricket tournament will feature six-team men’s and women’s T20 events, with each team having a 15-member squad. 

England is currently ranked second in men’s T20s and third in women’s, while Scotland is not in the top ten for either format. The collaboration is aiming to make a strong side with both boards.
