Sudáfrica nunca ganó la bolsa ICC durante 27 años, sintiendo dolor de corazón severo de los campeones de 1998 Trificios Shepherds.

When Temba Bavuma lifted the Test Mace at Lord’s on June 14, it wasn’t just a victory for South Africa’s 15-man squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. Everyone and anyone who had been part of the great Proteas team since 1992 won. There was a reason that Shaun Pollock, Graeme Smith, and AB de Villiers, three former South Africa captains, were present at the ground.

Although South Africa had won the 1998 Champions Trophy, that wasn’t an ICC trophy then. In fact, it was called the Wills International Cup back then. So, in a way, the WTC Final victory over Australia is South Africa’s maiden ICC trophy. You could see what the moment meant for all these Proteas greats.

Dale Steyn cries after South Africa creates history

All of them were emotional. They had gone through heartbreak after heartbreak. This is what South Africa needed; they needed it. And when it happened. Many couldn’t control their emotions. Keshav Maharaj was sobbing as Graeme Smith interviewed him moments after Kyle Verreynne hit the winning shot.

But Maharaj wasn’t the only one. Sitting at his home in South Africa, Dale Steyn failed to hold his emotions either. Having been through the heartbreak of the 2015 ODI World Cup, the former fast bowler wasn’t able to speak while talking to Star Sports. He had his Proteas cap in his hand and cried as the moment hit him.
