The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) were contemplating scrapping the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 amid the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has stated that at one point, the discussion was around cancelling the tournament in its entirety.
BCCI was going to cancel IPL 2025
However, following discussions with the stakeholders, it was decided that for the time being, the IPL 2025 season will be halted for 1 week. BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla also stated something similar. He stated that the tournament will only proceed if the Indian government gives them a green light.
“See, given the situation as of now, we thought it appropriate that it does not make sense to have the tournament going on for a while, and as the situation unfolds in the coming days, accordingly we will take a call. We were considering (full suspension), and we were discussing with all the stakeholders, and it was thought appropriate to suspend for a week, assess the situation and then take a final call,” Dhumal told CNN-News18.

Players sent home
In the aftermath of the decision, the BCCI has also sent players and support staff back home, Indian and foreign. South Africa, Australia and the West Indies cricket boards were fearing for the safety of their players. Foreign cricketers themselves weren’t too keen on playing in the IPL, considering that’s been going on at western borders of India for the last couple of days.
