Shubman Gill puede estar en el número 4, el comandante indio se negó a hacerlo oficial.

India captain Shubman Gill has kept the team combination a secret in his press conference ahead of the India vs England series. Gill succeeds Rohit Sharma as captain, while Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin have also recently retired. With a new influx of players into the Indian squad, the Indian captain opted against revealing roles in the media.

Batting order not decided for IND vs ENG Tests, says Shubman Gill

India’s batting order for the IND vs ENG 1st Test is anyone’s guess at this point. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired, leaving a few spots in the XI to be filled. Karun Nair has earned a recall after 7 years, while Sai Sudharsan got his maiden call up. Barring Yashasvi Jaiswal, it is unclear who bats at which position.

KL Rahul had batted at several positions in the past couple of years, while Shubman Gill dropped down to No.3 over time. Karun Nair batted at No.3 in the 1st unofficial Test, where Sai Sudharsan was expected to feature. Kohli’s No.4 spot is also vacant. The Indian captain acknowledged the gap left behind while addressing the media.

Shubman Gill tight lipped on Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma replacement, says

“Pressure is always there in every tour. Definitely, two very experienced players who played for such a long time and won so many times, very difficult to fill their space,” Gill said in his press conference

Gill is expected to drop down to No.4 but did not confirm the same. The Indian team is expected to train for 10 days and play an Intra-squad game against India A. Several main team players have already joined up with the India A squad for the second unofficial Test.

“We still have some time, we will be playing an intra-squad and have a 10-day camp in London. We will decide the batting order once we are there,” the Indian captain added.
