South Africa cricket team batter Heinrich Klaasen has decided to abruptly retire from international cricket with immediate effect. The keeper-batter, who was a part of SRH in IPL 2025, took the decision to call it quits across formats in the international arena on Monday. The 33-year-old has decided to step away from white-ball formats as well following his decision to retire from Tests in 2024.

Klaasen has been one of South Africa’s best batters in ODIs and T20Is since making his debut in 2018. He captained the Proteas in 9 T20Is. While he wasn’t a big contributor to Test cricket, he was an integral part of the ODI and T20I setup.

In the 50-over format, he amassed 2141 runs to his name, averaging 43.69 from 60 matches, In 58 T20Is, he managed to score 1000 runs.

Klaasen made his One-Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) debuts in the summer of 2018, and went on to establish himself as one of the most destructive white-ball players of his generation,” a statement by the CSA on social media platform X stated.

Klaasen’s decision to retire from international cricket comes on the same day that Australia’s Glenn Maxwell decided to call it quits from ODIs. The Proteas batter was seen in action latest in IPL 2025 during his stint for SRH. He amassed 487 runs in 14 matches, averaging 44.27 and turning out to be one of the best batters for SRH in this season.
