With their main overseas players gone, DC is likely to make some changes in their rather fragile batting order. KL Rahul, who hadn’t opened for his new franchise, could be soon seen donning the opener’s cap, as per a report in the Times of India. The Axar Patel-led team will be without their regular opener now — Faf du Plessis, who has refused to come back for the remainder of the IPL 2025.
That leaves them with two other options — Karun Nair and Abhishek Porel. In 7 matches Nair has scored 154 runs at an average of 22, while Porel has managed 265 in 11 outings. So, the sane choice will be, to get Rahul at the top of the order. The latter has been their best batter — and has scored 381 runs in 10 matches, at an average of 42.
DC are in fifth position at the moment, and they need to win at least two of their remaining three matches, to harbour any hopes of making it to the playoffs. So far, Rahul has batted at No. 3 twice, and then the remaining times at No. 4 for the team this year. This would be the third change in his batting position now.
As far as their next match is concerned, they will be up against GT on Sunday, followed by their encounter in Mumbai vs MI, and then vs PBKS in Jaipur. It is important to note, that their May 8 match against Punjab was cancelled midway, due to a security threat, due to military tensions between India and Pakistan.
