In what is a huge relief for Mumbai Indians, Trent Boult is set to rejoin the side when IPL 2025 restarts. The New Zealand pacer, who was the team’s most expensive buy in the mega auction, had flown back home after the league was suspended for one week. MI, who are frontrunners to secure a spot in IPL 2025 playoffs, need to win both their remaining league stage matches in order to seal their spot in the playoffs.
Boult to return to MI when IPL 2025 restarts
As per ESPN Cricinfo, Boult has decided to return to India for the remainder of IPL 2025. Returning to MI after a span of 3 years, the New Zealand pacer has bagged 18 wickets so far in IPL 2025 from 12 matches. MI will face DC on May 21 followed by a clash against PBKS on May 26. Boult has played a crucial role for MI in this season, along with Deepak Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah.
MI will be heavily benefited by Boult’s availability, given that they will lose opener Ryan Rickleton and Corbin Bosch at the time of the IPL 2025 playoffs. It is pertinent to point out that Cricket South Africa has asked 8 of their 20 players who have been named in the WTC final squad to return by May 26. This means they would miss the playoffs.
In addition to Bosch and Rickleton, Will Jacks is also unlikely to be available for MI when IPL 2025 restarts. The reason – he has been named in England’s squad for the upcoming series against West Indies. All England players taking part in IPL 2025 will leave their respective sides once the group stage ends.
IPL 2025 will resume on May 17. The playoffs are scheduled to take place between May 29 and June 1 , followed by the final on June 3.
